Our story:
Plymouth Farms was founded in 1998 by Chris and Kelly Avis — college sweethearts who met in a Bible study at UNC Greensboro and never stopped building a life together rooted in faith, family, and a willingness to dream big. What began as a shared vision has grown alongside their greatest adventure: raising five children, a working farm, multiple businesses, and a deep commitment to their community.
Life at Plymouth Farms is lively and full. The Avis family raises greenhouses bursting with flowers and vegetables, a gaggle of chickens, dairy cows, donkeys, and the usual crew of farm cats and dogs that make country life feel complete. Their mission is simple: steward the land well and produce high-quality food and products using organic practices wherever possible. Their offerings include greenhouse-grown plants, fresh eggs, raw milk, honey, and organically roasted coffee beans — carefully roasted in-house for local businesses and retail customers.
Plymouth Farms also operates a commercial landscaping company and sells greenhouse products at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market and through local partners such as Golden Antiques. Whether working with the soil, growing plants, or serving customers, their focus is always on quality, sustainability, and strengthening local connections.
Never content to do just one thing, the Avis family has recently expanded into historic preservation and community revitalization. With a passion for saving meaningful places, they began restoring historic properties and bringing them back to life. Their first project, The Livery Stable in Madison — one of the town's oldest buildings — has been thoughtfully restored and now welcomes guests as an Airbnb. This was followed by the Taylor House in Stoneville, also beautifully restored as a guest property.
Their current and future projects include The Meeting House and Ruby Rose in Stoneville, both in the design phase and envisioned as unique gathering spaces combining lodging, community experiences, and possibly a small restaurant. These projects reflect the family's heart for preserving history while creating welcoming spaces where people can gather, connect, and make memories.
At its core, Plymouth Farms is about more than farming or business — it's about cultivating community, honoring tradition, caring for the land, and building something meaningful for future generations. For the Avis family, this work isn't just what they do — it's who they are.
